Residency Studios
The Art House has high-quality, accessible residency studios. You can also book self-catering accommodation, with or without the studio. Artists take a residency with us for many different reasons. This has included:
- Focusing on a particular piece of work
- To spend time with a community of artists
- Using the studio as a project space, gallery or to deliver workshops
- Taking focused, creative time away from teaching, parenting etc.
- Experienced print-makers can arrange to have 24 hour access to the print studio during their stay. We are also happy to discuss access to the ceramics workshop and kiln.
- Researching internationally renowned sculpture collections and exhibitions at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Hepworth and the Henry Moore Institute. All around 20mins from the Art House.
- Exploring the industrial heritage of the area and the communities linked to that heritage, including the National Coal Mining Museum and the John Goodchild Archive.
The Art House provides support to artists’ in residence in a number of ways:
- Make links locally, perhaps with artists, communities or visual arts organisations
- Book one to one advice sessions with a member of staff
- Demonstrations, workshops or talks
- Open your studio to the public
- Artist members' can access funded residency opportunities
